Exchequer Leghorn chicks 4 - 5 weeks old photos

Now the growers have been moved to the yard the only poultry I have at home are the Indian Game cross table birds who are 7 1/2 weeks old and the Exchequer Leghorn chicks of 4 1/2 weeks. The Exchequer Leghorns are still with the Australorp hen but I'm sure are quite capable of coping alone if they needed to.

  1. Hi Sandra,

Do you know when it shows witch gender they are? My Leghorn's are 5 weeks old and I wonder if they are ladies or gents.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jaap from The Netherlands

  2. At 5 weeks, although not 100% accurate the male birds begin to show redder wattles and combs than the females. I have found by 10 to 13 weeks unless the males are very advanced it starts to get harder to tell them apart as in this breed the females also have large wattles and combs. Once the tails of the cockerels develop the difference is noticable again

Do you have any photographs you could email to me ?
